Hard to believe it’s been three years since the demise of Earl Pickens and the Black Mountain Marauders, New York City’s greatest ever country/punk/glam rock/heavy metal/grindcore band with 39 letters in its name. I was going to commemorate this occasion with some musings on the band that the New York Times once called “Earl Pinkins and His Black Mountain Raiders”, but I decided to let these photos do the talking. If you have any pictures to throw on this, the proverbial funeral pyre of the band that brought bad Elvis impersonators, mock kung-fu battles and autographed ladies’ undergarments to the East Village lo those many years ago; countryrockandwesternroll’s one-time vigilantes, email them to me and I’ll post them here. Until then … [heavy Long Island accent] “Ladies and gentlemen, mister Earl Pickens and the Black Mountain Marauders. Give it up!”
